Singapore – CDM, the global infrastructure and environment firm, has announced the establishment of a global Technical Centre for Integrated Water Management and Urban Planning to be based in Singapore.
CDM’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Thomas D. Furman Jr., made the announcement Tuesday as part of the firm’s participation in Singapore International Water Week 2008.
The new Technical Centre will promote the application of advanced planning and simulation models, decision software, and geospatial information systems for improved understanding and management of sustainable urban environments.
Paul R. Brown, a member of CDM’s Board of Directors, will serve as the Centre’s founding technical director.
The interdisciplinary Centre will incorporate multiple perspectives of urban planning, water systems engineering, economics, and environment, according to Mr. Brown. “Close collaboration among water managers, engineers, and urban planners will bring truly integrated problem-solving approaches to addressing ‘cities of the future’ issues of climate change, efficient water management practices, environmental quality, and economic vitality of our urban centers,” he said.
“Singapore has demonstrated global leadership in the advancement of water technology,” Mr. Furman commented. “It is important for us to locate our new Technical Centre in this rapidly developing global water hub. This gives CDM an important platform for research, strategy, and applications in Singapore, the region, and globally.”
Through more than three decades of operations in Singapore, CDM has undertaken planning and engineering on several of the nation’s signature water infrastructure and environmental projects.
