Blackberry, a specialized software company, partners with the Chinese rival of Google, Baidu. On Monday, BlackBerry announced that Baidu’s high-definition mapping technology for vehicles will run on the company’s QNX Neutrino real-time operating system. The company’s tech will be headed by Guangzhou Automobile Group. However, the future EVs from the company will feature the BlackBerry/Baidu technology.
This step is considered another step for Blackberry to plant its roots in China, after the company closed a deal with Baidu to provide its software to the search engine giant’s Apollo self-driving car.
The aim of the company is to provide a backbone for driver’s assist technologies, however, the goal is to create a fully automated driving system some time in the future. Blackberry boasts that its software helps 175 million cars with various safety and driver-assist functions.
