BCCL uses drones to sanitize large open areas in Dhanbad

The Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) have adopted a first of its kind move to sanitize hospitals and residential colonies in Dhanbad, with the help of drones, to check the spread of the coronavirus, as reported by the news website. According to BCCL officials, the decision was taken to cover large open areas which otherwise remains unattended.

“Drones are being used to reach out to the large open areas, some of which are located at distant locations, which are really difficult to reach out manually. It’s a new technique through which more area could be covered in minimum time proficiently,” said a BCCL official.

The official added that the drones can spray up to 10 liters of sanitizer while flying in the air for almost 15 minutes. The drones have been used in sanitizing the premises of Central Hospital Dhanbad, its COVID-19 ward areas, entire hospital premises, Nursing school and Nurse Hostel.

PVKRM Rao, Director(P) BCCL inaugurated the sanitization programme. He further added that the company plans to sanitize BCCL headquarters and its offices, colonies at Koyla Nagar, Karmik Nagar, Jagjeewan Nagar besides those located at different areas in the district by using this technology.

Following the WHO and ICMR guidelines, Sodium hypochlorite solution with 1 per cent concentration as a disinfectant is used for sanitization by these drones. A Hyderabad based company has been roped in to provide its services, which has deployed two drones for sanitization in BCCL.
