Australian utility opts for GIS to monitor infrastructure

< 1 Minute Read

Australia: Western Power, an electric company owned by the government of Western Australia, has started using high-resolution aerial imagery to monitor its infrastructure.

Western Power uses high-resolution aerial imagery provided by Sydney-based nearmap. A mapping server is used to feed imagery into Western Power’s internal GIS. It is then imported into the Western Power’s GIS system as a layer to be overlaid with the asset information. This helps in proper monitoring of network asset data that supports the whole lifecycle of the utility”s assets. The project was put to test in the Perth metropolitan area. Now, Western Power has extended the project to the entire state.
