UK: The second British Information Modelling (BIM) event proved a success with 100 delegates heading the Arupโ€™s central London HQ last week.ย  A perfect opening event for Digital Construction Week – which followed later in the week – British Information Modelling saw a lively discussion between the audience and a panel comprising of Cobus Bothma and Martin Coyne of KPF, Shaun Farrell of Turner & Townsend and Andrew Norrie of Graphisoft.

The BIM-focused event was organised by 3D Repo, the company behind multi-award winning technology that allows complex BIM datasets from multiple sources to be stored and easily accessed anywhere via the web.ย  Speakers discussed developments that improve collaboration between architects, developers, engineers and contractors and the business benefits that can be gained.

The event also witnessed new innovations from: 3D Repo, CartoConsult, Sablonoย  andย  Basestone.ย  Sablono described how their technology tracks building components including pre-fabricated units from source to build, to facilitate lean construction techniques.

CartoConsult explained how Skanska had employed Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to manage projects in London with the creation of an interactive 3D city model.ย  Meanwhile, Basestone, illustrated how engineers were transforming the way they issue, review and manage their drawings and data across construction projects.
