Airspace mapping project in Nigeria

In its pursuit of ensuring enhanced safety in the aviation industry, the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) is undertaking a nation-wide airspace obstruction mapping and charting project with a view to developing and invariably produce low level navigational maps for helicopter and low flying aircraft within the airspace. Additionally, the project is intended to develop and chart helicopter airways over and within the major cities in the country. In a circular recently released in the management of NAMA, other aims and objectives of the National Obstruction Mapping and Charting project include; the need to collate classify and map all obstruction features as well as develop adequate nation-wide GIS base map and billing system on which the obstruction database will be maintained.
