The American Geographical Society (AGS)ย has announced its 2nd annual Geography Teacher Fellows Program, sponsored by open-source geospatial software companyย Boundless, to promote geo-education across the U.S.
The program gives 50 teachers the opportunity to attend the annualย Geography 2050 Symposium, which brings together the most influential geographical and geospatial leaders from business, government, academia, non-profits and the media to discuss and plan for the future.
AGS Teacher Fellows have the opportunity to interact with these industry leaders and bring back to their classrooms the most recent advances in geographical education and practical application of the latest geospatial tools available.
โAGS is known for bringing together geographical and geospatial leaders from business, government, academia, the not-for-profit world, and the media to discuss and plan for the future.ย The nationโs leading geography teachers are clearly important players in this group and we are very pleased that Boundless has continued to sponsor this Programโ said Dr. John Konarski, Chief Executive Officer of AGS.
โBesides what is accomplished at the Symposium, the AGS Teacher Fellows bring back to their classrooms the most recent advances in geographical education and practical application of the latest geospatial tools available,โ added Dr. Konarski.
When asked about their sponsorship, Anthony Calamito, Vice President of Products said, โBoundless believes in the power of geography, and strives to promote geo-education wherever and whenever possible.โ
Anthony continued to say, โWe also believe that open source software provides the best tools to help educators teach geography, and for students to practice in the classroom or at home. We are once again honored to sponsor Teacher Fellows at this yearโs AGS Fall Symposium.โ
The AGS Fall Symposium will be held on November 16th and 17th, 2017 at Columbia University in New York City. Teachers may begin applying for the AGS Geography Teacher Fellow program on the AGS website at www.americangeo.org.
