Immersive 4D learning technology from 3D Repo is being used by the Balfour Beatty Vinci (BBV) joint venture and HS2 Ltd, to improve site safety.
The cloud-based technology is known as SafetiBase 4D, and has been developed by BBV in partnership with innovative tech company 3D Repo. From the safety of an office environment, site workers can access the Mission Room to experience a four dimensional, 360ยบ virtual version of a BBV construction site, on HS2โs Area North route.
Through this, they can go on-site virtually, and explore, discuss, and agree upon the projectโs delivery sequence, identify safety issues, and resolve them accordingly. They can even tag hazards at a specific place and time in the virtual build sequence, and access its entire history, including the progress of dealing with the identified hazards.
HS2 Ltd senior innovation manager Dr David Rogers said that the technological innovation possesses huge potential in improving on-site safety and identifying and eliminating hazards even before workers arrive on site. This in turn would not only help improve safety but also boost productivity.
