UK: A 3D digital model of Liverpool Street Station in London was recently created on the request of Network Rail. The model was based on 3D laser scan data, which was cross-checked against existing asset records. A fully-coordinated survey grid was created and then seven teams conducted laser scan and reflectorless survey activities. When it came to post-processing, since the volume of data collected was enormous, it became necessary to split the clouds. Each cloud was converted into an Autodesk Revit native point cloud file. Bridgeway Consulting came on-board to embed information from a BIM perspective, and carry out additional GPR and MEP surveys. This data can now be used for renovation, construction and facilities management purposes.
