India – Gujarat is pioneer in utilising Space Technology to improve living standard of the common men, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi said today. He was inaugurating the International Congress on Mapping and Space Technology-INCA-2008 Welcoming the delegates, he highlighted the innovative initiatives of Gujarat government that explore space technology to bring about quality changes in good governance and also for developing infrastructure facilities.

Chief Minister handed over the awards to the winners of All India Inca Map Quiz –School level Competitions. He asked students to inculcate enthusiasm for Satellite Mapping and Images.

Chief Minister said that Toddermall had selected Gujarat for the survey of Land Records and Land Mapping. Gujarat is far ahead in the management and discovery of Water Resources and its management through Remote Sensing. Gujarat has opened up new frontiers in Tele-Medicines and Distance-Education by providing Broad-Band Connectivity up to the Villages. Around 20000 class-rooms of schools and colleges are covered under the Edu-Sat. Disaster Management, upgrading Land-Water Resources, by exploring the avenues of Space Technology. Gujarat is pioneer in Water resources Mapping, Land-Records Reforms, and Satellite Mapping Systems, he said.

Gujarat has created National Hub BISEC-with the help of ISRO, Modi pointed out. He outlined various breakthroughs that have percolated up to grassroots in terms of Water Resource Map and 3-D Map at Panchayat level. Emphasising the need to explore Microwave Imaging System for the discovery of the minerals, Chief Minister said that the technology can address the issues like global warming and climate change. Gujarat has been making use of Space Technology for People’s Grievances Redressal –Which is a Model-and also for other innovative initiatives in Watershed Management, Fisheries and various sectors.

Chairman ISRO Madhavan Nayar elaborated the successful launching of the Chandrayaan and the exciting avenuesit has opened up. He dwelt upon the Surveillance Planetary Science that has opened up with the Moon-Mission. The Indian Space Scientists have a proud privilege to enter the Six Nations Club.

He cited the landmark breakthroughs in water conservation, ground water recharge, and other people centered and people oriented welfare potential of the technology. He elaborated the disaster preparedness, Web Base Global Image and Map services.

INCA is jointly organised by International Cartographic Association and ISRO, as many as 400 delegates from India, America, Australia, Germany and other countries are going to undertake brainstorming sessions over Satellite Image Technology and Collaborative Mapping, also about the cutting-edge research.
