Madurai, India, Mar 02: To strengthen intelligence and improve police-public interface, Madurai Range police today launched Geographical Information System, Global Positioning System and Short Message Serve Crime Criminal information system in Madurai and Virudhunagar districts. Launching the system here, IG of Police (South Zone) Sanjeev Kumar and DIG Jayanth Murali said the system would be connected to Transport Department’s main server to enable police to get information about any vehicle in the state.

The facility would be a help to officers during vehicle check as they could know whether the papers of vehicle produced by vehicle user was genuine or forged one.

Information on missing vehicle, towed away vehicle or clamped one ould also be known, they told PTI.

If a owner sends a message about his missing vehicle through SMS, he would get details whether it had been towed. If it has been stolen, then police would immediately take action to track the vehicle, they said.

If anybody sent message about sale of illicit liquor, eve teasing or brothel house through SMS, the confidentiality of the informer would be maintained, they said.

The system would also help to give red-alert in case of blast or any emergency by sending message to all the Mobile Phone users at one stroke.

If no action was taken after a complaint was given through SMS, the server would automatically send reminders to the corresponding officers at pre-defined periodicity and a copy of the message would be sent to high officials.

The server would also update the action information and send message to the concerned person also.

The system, developed by D3DTechnologies, Chennai, would also help police to send greetings or any alerts and the sponsors name would figure in all the messages
