Agriculture is a key pillar of the Indian economy and the primary source of livelihood for about 58 percent of India's population. The share of agriculture in GDP has reached almost 20 percent in the last 17 years for the first time. Currently, around 51% of India's total workforce is engaged in agriculture and its allied sectors, like forestry, fisheries, etc. The increasing population and growing income will generate increased demand for food grains and non-food grain crops. Therefore, Indian agriculture must achieve and maintain a consistent and higher growth rate of 4% per annum. There is an immediate need for disruption in the sector led by technology, as it can solve problems of scale, reduce information asymmetry, and allow for supply chain disintermediation to make farming more profitable, inclusive, and equitable.
The vast potential of geospatial technology is being harnessed, and a good knowledge base has been created over the years. Several projects, applications, and programs like PMKSY, PMFBY, e-NAM, FASAL, etc., are using technologies like GIS, GPS, Remote Sensing, Satellite Imagery Drones, Artificial Intelligence, IoT, etc. Technology is providing an unprecedented opportunity to improve yields and mitigate some of the losses associated with the various challenges in the agricultural sector.
Adopting technological innovations, effective policies, regular interactions between the producers, the industry, and government can drive significant economic growth in the sector. The market is witnessing the rise in innovative start-ups, apps, and businesses that will disrupt the traditional models, which will lead to economic benefits for farmers and bring sustainability to the agriculture sector while driving down its negative impact on the environment.
This two-day program will focus on the emerging technologies and policies that can help meet climate change challenges, meet the demand for increased food production, meet the storage and traceability challenges and build an intelligent and sustainable food system.
Bring together geospatial and emerging technology experts and providers to the platform in to bring forward innovative solutions for a sustainable agriculture infrastructure
Share states experiences and approaches in developing and encouraging the adoption of appropriate technologies for particular farming systems; in light of these experiences examine the efficiency of different policy approaches and instruments
Improve understanding of the sustainability of farming systems and technology, particularly in the context of future demand for food and other agricultural products
Show key trends in farming practices and structures and agro-food industries and the effects they will have on sustainable farming
Identify policy approaches for stimulating the adoption of technologies that can improve sustainability at the farm level.
Demonstrate to all stakeholders, the larger ecosystem and value of geospatial industry and technology for socio-economic impact
