Geospatial Knowledge Infrastructure (GKI)

Theme: Strengthening the Geospatial Knowledge Infrastructure in the Middle East

30 October 2025

Introduction

In an increasingly interconnected global economy, nations are strategically leveraging the Geospatial Knowledge Infrastructure (GKI) to unlock competitive advantage, accelerate innovation, and strengthen economic resilience. The GKI provides a comprehensive blueprint to integrate digital economies, cities, and citizens with geospatial approaches, data, and technologies. It aims to deliver location-based knowledge, services, and automation expected in the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR). The GKI Readiness Index represents a critical instrument for assessing a nation“s maturity in developing, managing, and utilizing geospatial knowledge for policy formulation, economic development, and national resilience.

Discussion Points

  • GKI Readiness Index: Achievements and Challenges in the Middle East
  • Unlocking Open Data and Real-Time Geospatial Capabilities
  • Building Effective Geospatial Governance Frameworks
  • Fostering Geospatial Innovation

Objective

To identify and discuss the critical gaps and opportunities in strengthening the Geospatial Knowledge Infrastructure (GKI) across the Middle East

To draw from the GKI Readiness Index, the event will focus on addressing key regional gaps such as limited capacity-building initiatives, underdeveloped governance frameworks, and emerging but fragmented innovation ecosystems
