India is facing the biggest crisis in its history. It’s not just COVID-19. India faces one of its major and most severe water crises; more than 50% of the population today has no access to safe drinking. Growing population, deforestation, climate change are only accelerating the problem.
The current situation calls for a paradigm shift. We urgently need a transition from this ‘supply-and-supply-more water’ provision to measures that improve water use efficiency, reducing leakages, recharging/restoring local water bodies, and apply for higher tariffs and ownership by various stakeholders. A recovery-based closed-loop system is the need of the hour.
The virtual summit will focus on India’s mission to lead the change in building a smart and resilient water ecosystem essentially needs understanding and discussion around the critical challenges and how digitalisation of water can lead the way, more so given the implications of the pandemic.
