Session 1: The ‘How, Why and What’ of GIS and BIM Solutions for Sustainable AECO Industry Practices

The architecture, engineering, and construction and operation (AECO) industry is often met with challenges pertaining to data transfer and exchange between different stages of project lifecycle. Despite the application of building information modelling (BIM) and geographic information systems (GIS) for significant improvements to some AECO workflows, the disjointed use of these systems and data formats disrupt the seamless flow of project information.

This session will focus on–

• Enabling industry stakeholders to derive the characteristics of GIS (incl. 3D mapping etc.,) and BIM (for increased collaboration) for an integrated system to support sustainable project delivery.
• Deriving key learnings from integrated GIS and BIM system with reliable project information exchange in order to ensure optimal results in project management and delivery.

Session 2: Benefits and Challenges of Adopting GIS and BIM Solutions Across AECO Project Workflows

Interoperability of CAD and BIM with GIS was complex, and visualization of GIS data in CAD had shortcomings. However, the industry has witnessed significant improvements in recent years in terms of intuitive solutions aimed at GIS data in BIM platforms and vice versa.

This session will focus on–

• Solutions enabling normalised data sharing & collaboration using GIS and BIM data with the advent of interoperability features in GIS and BIM.
• Collaborative workflows with integrated GIS and BIM systems which have improved design quality, connected C&E solutions and optimised the entire lifecycle for project sustainability.

The value proposition of advanced project delivery with integrated GIS and BIM extends beyond design and engineering operations. The removal of data exchange & collaboration barriers and silos with GIS solutions for AECO, also enables entire project life cycle improvement.

This session will focus on–

• Showcasing the capabilities of such integrated systems, wherein GIS data compliments rich BIM data to generate in-depth insights, assess productivity and evaluate service improvability associated with infrastructure assets.
• Role of integrated GIS and BIM systems for data-driven decisions for entire lifecycle of buildings and infrastructure assets.
