The country’s Land and Development Office deals with more than 60000 residential, commercial, industrial and institutional properties. To streamline the process of managing these properties, the L&DO has developed the e-Dharti Geo Portal which will integrate legacy drawings such as maps and lease plans in the management information system. By making the data GIS-enabled, L&DO aims to provide the owners and purchasers easier access to all information related to the properties online. The project involves application of National Informatics Centre’s (NIC) GIS and Utility Mapping Services.
Accuracy Matters
When it comes to creating digital maps of properties, accuracy becomes paramount since missing out on even a minute portion of the land could lead to huge loss in monetary terms. As shared by Amit Bhargava, Head, Utility Mapping Division, Senior Technical Director, Utility Mapping Group, NIC, “For creating any kind of GIS Portal, the first requirement is a base map. Accuracy is of paramount importance in case of base maps and we require precision in centimeters. That’s why, we established a CORS station. It is on 24x7x 365. It gives you precise measurement which can be used as a reference model.”
Higher Accuracy with Trimble
