An interesting story revolves around the name of Bangalore city. A gracious king named it after the good deed done to him by an old woman when he was out hunting. The old woman was poor and had nothing else to offer but boiled beans. But the king was so pleased with her hospitality that he named the entire city as bele-benda-kalu-ooru, which in the local language Kannada means, the place of boiled beans. The historical evidence of the name โBengalooruโ can be found in a 9th century inscription found in a temple in the village of Begur. But it was Kempe Gowda who first set the limits of the city of Bangalore.Kempe Gowdaโs city of Bengalooru popularly now known as Bangalore extended to the four watchtowers established by him way back in the 1537. The Eicher city Map of Bangalore captures it all!
However today the city of Banagalore has a lot more to offer than the four watchtowers of Kempe Gowda or the boiled beans of the kind old woman. Today Bangalore is the fifth largest and fastest growing metropolis and is known as the Garden city of India.
