In the past 5 years, digital maps of larger scale have become much more common in Asia. The increase applications of these digital maps in the private sector and general consumers are only a natural consequence. Couple with the fact that a large population in Asia has adopted mobile phones as part of their lives, Location Based Services has the potential of growing into a much larger industry than the public sector. This presentation traces the history of LBS, the technology, and the applications that are now in place as well as what we can expect in the near future.
