Abstract
Nowdays, GIS Technology is mission critical in supporting national tactical and strategic mission for instance monitoring situation inside and around its frontiers which include political sovereignty, civilian missions and military superiority. As in military or national security operation, the basic doctrine of GEOINT was published by NGA in 2004. GEOINT represents the exploitation and analysis of imagery and geospatial information to describe, assess, and visually depict physical features and geographically referenced activities on the Earth. In military activities GEOINT provides high quality IMINT and geospatial data for military decision making and mission planning through cartography, activity identification, tactical image analysis, DTM, and etc. As GEOINT’s role in national security, GEOINT supports the first and highest obligation of the government – the protection of the nation’s security. It plays a critical role, informing every aspect of the development and implementation of the nation’s security policy from the national to the tactical level. Basically, GEOINT characteristics incorporates intelligence analysis into all aspects, uses multiple types of sensors and advances sensor technology, combines multiple types of geospatial data and uses intelligence and data from other INTs to provide context. This conference will highlight generally the concept of GEOINT in military and security operation as well as describing the component, process and data of GEOINT. Some products application of GEOINT will be also be highlighted.
