Abstract
At Faculty of Geoinformation Science & Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, there are several laboratories including a photogrammetric laboratory. This laboratory is equipped with analogue and analytical plotters. With the analogue and analytical plotters, the laboratory was fully used for practical, research and consultancy work in photogrammetry which included aerial mapping or close range photogrammetric mapping. In 2001, the laboratory was equipped with high end HELAVA Digital Photogrammetric WorkStation (DPW). This paper discusses about the experience using HELAVA DPW in producing digital orthophoto, digital topographic map and fly-through of the campus. Since the system used is a high-end DPW, it is not easy to operate, however, it produces accurate results. The user of the system should be familiar with how to operate the system in order to produce accurate results or produce the desired results. The users also need some knowledge in photogrammetry allowing them to understand the operating system and the interpretation of the output. The experience of using the high-end DPW shows that it could be used to solve many photogrammetric problems. However, due to it's high cost many individuals or companies could not effort to purchase such system.
