Sao Paulo police develops crime maps

Brazil: The SSP (Public Security Bureau) of São Paulo has developed a tool that maps crime in the region. Unlike Wikicrime, this map is for the exclusive use of the São Paulo police. The tool, which is named after Ragisp (Analytical Report Management of Public Security Intelligence), is composed of data from police reports.

“The Ragisp is nothing more than a simplified and friendly form of data presentation from the Secretariat,” said Fabio Bechara developer of the map of police SSP. The available data is present in the official site of SSP, with some details. With this data, the police can mount positioning strategies or police vehicles in areas of high crime rates. “Access to this data is done through mobile phones, tablets or a laptop. Therefore, the police need to access the intranet system of the secretariat to look at the map of crimes,” added Bechara. Although still in the process of disclosure by the police and city police battalions, the map has proved to be a powerful tool in fighting crime.
