Point One Navigation, a California-based Start-up, is transforming industries with its centimetre-accurate positioning platform, Polaris. They are offering, precise location as a service with an opportunity for new applications from robotics to drones to AR.
By partnering with Ordnance Survey (OS) and integrating OS Net, they’re making precise location accessible across Great Britain.
To Point One Navigation, Polaris is a complete location solution that has accurate positioning, simple to integrate and fast to implement. The solution is also scalable as in its built for scale. The goal of the company was to make positioning and location technology accessible to everyone that could be supported by modern interfaces.
Why it didn’t work in US? The country didn’t have a national scale model that could come under one larger scalable model for positioning and coordinates as individual states would be penalised under their respective rules and regulations.
Aaron Nathan, Aaron Nathan, CEO and Founder, Point One Navigation points out, “It would be great if we had an Ordnance Survey of the US, one map network, but unfortunately that’s not how it works.”
Key Markets
Using the GNSS to deploy on a nations wide scale, Polaris, the precise location technology to markets was launched in four key markets that they had no access before. Those key markets include automotive, robotics, surveying, and mobility.
Some of the use cases include, Precision agriculture where autonomous drones & robots are used for crop scanning, fruit picking, and precise application of fertilizers/pesticides. It is also used in Mapping underground assets, precision surveying, construction robotics, and inspection in the in the Construction field.
In the Transportation Industry with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), semi-driverless tech and last-mile delivery efficiency. Polaris can be used for efficient planning and map creation in Drone mapping and automated lawnmowers and public services like 911.
Global Expansion and OS Partnership
Point One Navigation expanded to Europe in 2023 and partnered with Ordnance Survey known for its high quality data in Great Britain. Moving away from the limitation of GPS, this partnership saw an increased focus in aligning with the Point One Navigation core infrastructure.
The OS Channel Partner Programme is designed to foster growth and collaboration within a closed network, offering location-based insights and a range of resources to support projects and interests of the partners.
This collaboration aims to accelerate innovation in the robotics and smart product sectors. Point One Navigation can rapidly integrate new data and it’s positioning APIs into applications with short design cycles, streamlining development and deployment processes using OS’s expertise.
Licensing OS Net, a nationwide network of GNSS base stations, helps with enhancing accuracy, precision, reliability, and interoperability. Surveyors use the OS Net network to accurately survey map features using this GNSS technology. Point One Navigation aims to have a global reach, providing a high-precision service that showcases how precise location data is used.
