Located on the east of Windward Islands on September 19 by the National Hurricane Centre, USA, Hurricane Ian originated from a tropical wave. In a matter of days, the gusting storm took its full form to a full-fledged Category 4 hurricane with winds flowing at over 155 miles an hour at its peak.

During its tropical wave era, it started showing symptoms of possible growth. On 21st September, it entered the southeast Caribbean area passing nearby ABC Islands and to the northern coast of South America.

On 23rd September, the tropical wave was defined as a Tropical Depression considering the form it was taking with winds flowing over 35 miles an hour. It was on 25th September when the wind speed increased to 40 miles an hour that it was given the name Ian.

On 27th September, Ian rapidly intensified with 125 miles per hour of wind gusts which resulted in a landfall and electricity outage in major parts of Cuba.

On 29th September, Ian turned into a Category 4 Hurricane with wind flowing at 155 miles per hour. As it approached the coast of east Florida, it started weakening, however, still retaining its category 4 status. Ian made landfall on Cayo Costa with sustained winds of 150 mph (240 km/h).

The system turned northward on the morning of September 30 and accelerated toward the South Carolina coast. It began to weaken inland and transitioned into a post-tropical cyclone over coastal South Carolina the same day. The cyclone later dissipated over southern Virginia late on October 1.
