24 March 2007: Quantum GIS (QGIS) is a user friendly Open Source Geographic Information System (GIS) that runs on Linux, Unix, Mac OSX, and Windows. The latest release version of QGIS is version 0.8 which includes a range of features like searching attribute data, export tool enhancements, WMS support, multi-platform GRASS support, new toolbox commands, enhanced vector editing and layer editing. QGIS allows users to create, maintain and geo-spatial data in a wide variety of formats of vector, raster, and database formats including the popular ESRI ShapeFile, geotiff, Mapinfo, Geography Markup Language.
