Vital maps indicating flooded areas of New South Wales were developed in 24-hour international effort to help the state’s regional and rural electricity network restore power as quickly as possible, while keeping their crews safe.
Using geospatial data from satellites, digital solutions business two10degrees was able to create and integrate up-to-date maps of flooded areas for Essential Energy, so they could better support crews on the ground.
Paul Weiss, Director of Business Development & Alliances, two10degrees, said, “Many people in the flood affected areas facing challenges with power supply while network repairs are underway, and network companies are committed to keep the network safe and supply available.
“When Essential Energy asked us for a solution, we were able to quickly turnaround and integrate flood map overlays with existing IVMS, so all users of the system could have visual access to current flooded areas and plan their crews’ response safely.
“Fortunately, our colleagues at geospatial business Geoplex were able to access satellite data from Geoscience Australia.
“That data was relayed back to a team in Adelaide, but given the urgency, a two10degrees team in the UK worked overnight Australia time to integrate it into Essential Energy’s system within 24 hours of the request.”
Michael Mills, Essential Energy Regional Fleet Lead, said, “The maps of the flood footprint allow us to better support our people who need to work close to flood zones.”
The flood map overlays will also be used by Disaster Relief Australia to help with their flood support and clean-up efforts.
