Tom Oulton, former principal consultant for Turner & Townsend, has been appointed the digital transformation lead at BIM start-up Operance.
Oulton is chair of both Constructing Excellence digital group and Constructing Excellence Yorkshire and Humber, besides being part of the steering group of thinkBIM.
In his new role, he will help clients create an easy-to-manage virtual estate to improve the safety and efficiency of their buildings.
Operance’s software defines, coordinates, and audits building operations and maintenance information through its Coordinate web application during the design development and construction stage.
After the handover, it gives end-users real-time details via the Operate mobile app, ensuring risks and facilities management operations are managed throughout the building life cycle.
Operance is set to be launched early next year, and recently secured a £250,000 grant from the Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund – Mercia Equity Finance.
Oulton told Bimplus that Operance is a game-changer, as none of the existing software packages completely address all aspects of digital estate management. Operance brings it all together on one platform that is easily accessible on the user’s phone. As such, it would help bring together whole life data management for the built environment, benefitting those that need it most, such as housing associations, schools, and hospitals. Operance chief product officer Scott Pilgrim also welcomed Oulton in his new role. He said that Oulton’s industry knowledge, vision, leadership and commitment to the successful implementation of digital estate initiatives will add great value to the construction community, and help clients extract greater value from their estates.
