Apple and Google, the US tech giants, have launched the first version of Application Programming Interface (API). The new application will be shared with select developers who are associated with Public Health Authorities (PHAs) across the globe.

This release is developer-focussed. At the same time, it is consistent with both the IT major companies share beta copies of their software.

Another aim of the release is to provide feedback which will help in improving a number of features, both companies said in a statement.

Last month, both companies announced a joint partnership to allow the usage of Bluetooth technology to help governments and health agencies fight against ongoing COVID-19 pandemic through contact tracing, user privacy and security core.

Apple and Google had earlier released documentation on the Bluetooth and cryptography specifications as also an API.
