Infoterra provides LiDAR data to Wessex Water

< 1 Minute Read

UK, 28 Mar 2007: Infoterra Ltd. has supplied regional water and sewage treatment provider Wessex Water with LiDAR height data of the urban landscape throughout southwest England. This precise terrain height data, captured at 1-meter horizontal intervals, will provide Wessex Water with a reliable dataset to enable accurate flood modeling and risk analysis. The data is expected to improve modeling, planning, and investigation of both overground and underground water flow. It will be used to generate a visual representation allowing experts to view and calculate the complete impact of a flood event.

Dave Searby, technical manager at Wessex Water, said, “Hydrological consultants Richard Allitt Associates are using Infoterra’s accurate height data to improve our flood prediction and definition of risk.”

Dr Andy Wells, head of sales at Infoterra Ltd., said, “LIDAR data is the most accurate, most detailed, and most reliable way for water companies to improve modeling. By using detailed terrain height data, they can verify records of manhole cover heights to improve hydrological modeling and calculate the likely water flow following a flood.”
